Carmarthenshire Music Service is part of Carmarthenshire's Lifelong Learning and Leisure Department. On these pages we hope to give an outline of our policies, plans and achievements as well as an insight into what the service has to offer.
Primarily, the service offers tuition on a wide range of traditional instruments together with a developing world music department covering steel pans and other ethnic styles. As part of any tuition, performing opportunities are vital - Carmarthenshire Music Service currently has a wide range of ensembles for all levels and ages.
The Service has a team of vocal teachers and offers a range of choral opportunities for young singers. Rock / pop tuition and county rock ensembles are also available through the Service.
Carmarthenshire Music Service is one of the few in Britain to employ a fully qualified music therapist to work with special needs pupils within the County's special schools, mainstream schools, and attached units.
The service offers support and resources to the County's schools - apart from a large music library we also offer access to classroom support for primary schools, ICT / Music support for all schools and much more.
Carmarthenshire Music Service (in collaboration with neighbouring Ceredigion) was one of the first music services in the UK to offer its own curriculum for instrumental tuition. A copy is available to all parents on request from your child's teacher or school, or by contacting Carmarthenshire Music Service.
The Curriculum can also be downloaded from the downloads page.
